I think I need a drink

I know it’s only 10:00 in the morning, but I think, after the conversation that I just had with DH, that I need something to help me recover.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great guy – I know I’ve said this on numerous occasions, and it’s true! But sometimes we have a little problem with communication.

Let me give a little back story.

Since moving into Peace House, I’ve been trying to figure out a good way to take photos of quilts. I don’t have a design wall, so I can’t put them up there. And I don’t have a clothesline, so I can’t hang them there. I suppose I could walk across the road and use the clothesline at DD house, but that’s a lot of effort to get a photo.

I’ve thought about hanging them over the deck railing and taking a photo from the yard, but that would require someone holding the quilt while I take the photo, and I usually don’t have anyone that will help with that. I thought maybe I could rig up some sort of hanging apparatus (a pole with some hooks) where I could suspend the quilts over the railing, but I haven’t figured out exactly how I would manage it.

Then, this morning, I had a brainstorm. Why not put two hooks in the ceiling of the sun room from which I could support a pole which would hold the quilt that I want to photograph. The ceiling in the sun room is higher than the rest of the house and the natural light in there is fantastic. I wouldn’t have to worry about weather conditions inside like I would if I were trying to photograph outside.

I thought it was an ideal arrangement.

Then I tried to ask DH about setting it up.

Just hand me a bottle – I don’t need a glass!!! 😉

It took me about an hour of back and forth conversation with physical demonstrations using finished quilts for him to understand what I wanted. And, even now, I don’t know that he actually gets it!

All I want is a way to be able to photograph my finished quilts so that they are square in the photo. Laying them on the floor is adequate but not the best. I’ll keep you posted on the progress of this particular project.

  1. My DH would understand. Our photography arrangement can be someone hanging the item over our livingroom stairs while the other stands on our couch, or vise versa, someone stands on the stairs with the camera while someone on the couch hangs items on the wall above the couch and changes them for each picture. Sometimes you just need more hands. Of course, umpteen years photographing stuff for sale can lead to creative arrangements.

If all else fails, I’ll climb a ladder for you on our next visit, and hang the hooks.
Always happy to help a QBFF.
